An Update on the Mililani Trolley Service

6 01 2014

Thank you to the many Mililani residents who contacted my office regarding the Mililani Trolley Service. Your input was a valuable part of the discussions with the City’s Department of Transportation Services (DTS) on developing an alternative.  A major concern expressed was the importance of trolley service for students riding to school in the morning.  Based on this community input, DTS has developed a plan to provide coverage to those areas that will be affected by the loss of trolley service.

Castle & Cooke has committed to extending the Mililani Trolley service until January 15,2014.  Effective January 16th, TheBus Routes 501 & 504 will be modified to replace trolley service, providing hourly service from approximately 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily at regular bus fares.  TheBus Route 501 Mililani Transit Center – Mililani Mauka will expand to include the area currently served by the Mililani Trolley.  TheBus Route 504 Mililani Transit Center – Mililani Market Place will retain portions of the existing route 504 while adopting portions of the makai trolley route.  Detailed timetables and maps showing bus stop locations are being developed and will be distributed soon.  Also look for information updates on www.thebus.org.

Residents also requested a community meeting for more detailed information about the changes and to provide an opportunity for feedback and discussion.  Both the  Mililani/Waipio/Melemanu Neighborhood Board No. 25 and the Mililani Mauka/Launani Valley Neighborhood Board No. 35 have included a presentation of the plan as an agenda item for their January meetings.  Mililani NHB No. 25 will meet on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 7:30 PM at Mililani Recreation Center 3.  Mililani Mauka NHB No. 35 will meet on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 7:00 PM at Mililani Mauka Elementary School.  I encourage you to attend these meetings if you have any concerns on the change of service to your area.  Representatives from the City’s Department of Transportation Services will be present and available for questions.  You can also  contact my office at 768-5002 or email me at emartin@honolulu.gov.  Your input is always welcomed on this issue or any other community concern.  I look forward to hearing from you. Mahalo and Happy New Year!
