Due to the lack of maintenance for many years, the silt has built up and created islands within the stream bed.  The build-up is so heavy that coconut trees that are forty feet high are growing in these silt beds.  Council Chair Martin has been requesting funding to dredge this stream for the past three years. In fiscal year 2013, Chair Martin proposed a budget bill line item  for $350,000 to plan and design the extraction of the silt and vegetation that impedes this critical streamway. The funding was approved and the project is moving forward.
