Excerpt from Council Chair Ernest Martin’s Welcome Message

The City and County of Honolulu is hosting the 2014 Hawaii State Association of Counties (HSAC) Annual Conference on Thursday, June 12 and Friday, June 13 at the historic Moana Surfrider. The theme of this year’s conference is “He Malama Puwalu” or “United in Service.” Now, more than ever, government, the private sector and the general public must work collaboratively to ensure the economic stability, health and safety, and quality of life for the people of Hawaii.

A special thanks goes out to our speakers and panelists who graciously donated their time and expertise to discuss issues of significant concern to the viability of our island community. These discussions include climate change, clean energy, and global tourism-issues which will continue to be discussed long after this conference is over. Discussions at this conference have the potential to be part of various strategies developed to address these issues.

As always, the conference provides an exceptional opportunity for business leaders, community organizers and students to speak with county officials from across the state, to exchange ideas on how to better serve our residents and to establish relationships and contacts to facilitate that effort.
