Repaving North Shore City Streets

6 02 2017

Preliminary work will begin for the repaving of city streets on the North Shore beginning on Wednesday, February 8 in Haleiwa.

This project will rehabilitate more than 37 lane miles of roads at a cost of $5.9 million (see maps below). Roadwork will begin in Haleiwa and advance towards Waimea and Waialua. Barring weather related delays, the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of spring.

“The roads in our District get a lot of use by residents and visitors and this work is important to ensure safe travels for all of our motorists,” said Chair Emeritus Ernie Martin. “Maintaining city infrastructure, especially safe streets, is a core function of government. While the work is ongoing, please be patient with our work crews and understand that we are doing our best to ensure that the road refurbishments have minimal impact on traffic flow.”

Work hours will be between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, with possible weekend construction. Drivers should anticipate delays and are reminded to observe and obey all traffic controls, posted signs and special duty police officers. On-street parking will be prohibited during working hours.

Initial work will include the lowering of manholes, and tree and root pruning. The contractor will then remove worn-out pavement and resurface or reconstruct the asphalt and concrete pavement; install pavement markers, striping and markings; and install vehicle detector loops. Speed bumps on private roads will be removed and will not be replaced.

Please observe the dates and times on posted roadway signs. Illegally parked vehicles will be towed, if necessary, at the owner’s expense. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution through construction areas. Local residential traffic, deliveries, and trash collection will be allowed during construction hours.

Grace Pacific, LLC is coordinating local traffic. Please call Grace Pacific, LLC at (808) 842-3238 or AECOM Technical Services, Inc. at (808) 366-2588 with any concerns.
