Pupukea Beach Park Comfort Station Renovations Begin February 21st

17 02 2017

The Department of Parks and Recreation will begin renovations of the Pupukea Beach Park comfort station closest to Shark’s Cove on Tuesday, February 21, 2017.  The facility is suffering from major termite damage and wood rot, and an aging and unreliable electrical system.

The scope of work will include:

  • Demolition and reconstruction of the current wooden roof
  • Replacing the structure’s electrical system
  • Adding new security gates and doors to the facility
  • Installing skylights
  • Repainting
  • Placing an elastomeric roof coating to the structure which will extend the life of the new roof, and will provide an overall protection to the structure against the elements.

This renovation project is scheduled to be completed by the end of summer.

Several portable toilets will be placed on site for public use during the construction project.  The shower facility adjacent to the comfort station will remain open; however, there may be occasional interruptions to the water service to the shower while the renovation work is underway.

The $391,227 contract for the project was awarded to MEI Corporation.
