Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death in young athletes and the third leading cause of death in children. There are several genetic conditions that may cause heart rhythm problems. These are some common symptoms:

  • Faints or suddenly collapses
  • Complains of palpitations or fast heart beat
  • Dizziness, especially during exercise
  • Chest pain, especially during exercise
  • Shortness of breath at rest or when exercising
  • Fatigue or tiring easier than their friends

Some children may have a heart condition and show no symptoms. Sudden cardiac arrest in children can be prevented. Early detection can save lives.
